Thanks, I saw this on TV back in the 1950's. Duke was not alone in Hollywood to hold decades long grudges as I wrote in my description. It was, and still is, a clanish, contained world of tinsel. DLG

Artist's Description

14 years before "Red River" Duke acted with Walter Brennan in two Tim McCoy features. "Two-Fisted Law" (1932) is the second of the Columbia releases.

Columbia's tyrannical head Harry Cohn tried to get Duke blackballed in films claiming he was "a drunk and a rebel." Wayne was out of work for a year (as the studio did not pick up his option) and even contemplated became a prize fighter.

While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life. I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
