Lee Marvin earned an Oscar for his dual portrayal of Kid Shelleen/Tim Strawn in the 1965 comedy Western "Cat Ballou." After 14 years in film, he finally became a certified star.
Marvin's widow Pamela auctioned off his movie memorabilia in late August 2010, 23 years after his death from a heart attack.
The "Cat Ballou" items included the Hollywood Foreign Press Association "Golden Globe " Award as "Best Actor In A Comedy or "Musical." The beautiful 9" high statue consists of a golden globe, partially wrapped by a film strip, sitting on a block covered with a gold colored, inscribed presentation plaque.
The very prestigious award item sold for $3,450.
Other "Ballou" items included the XV Int'l Berlin Film Festival Award For Best Actor ($2,587) and the British Academy Award For Best Foreign Actor ($1,437).
Finally the the revised, final draft of the shooting script for "Ballou" went for $1, 610.

I first became obsessed with photography and motion pictures while growing up in post WW2 Manila in the Philippine Islands in the late 1940's/early 1950's. Film noirs were a particular influence. But my first love remains the theater. I acted in numerous amateur productions from 1958 to 1978. In 1979 I earned a MA in drama from the University of Arizona; earlier getting a BA in English from the University of Minnesota, where I co-founded the first film society on campus and ran it for four years. While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life.
