Artist's Description
Johnny Cash plays Marshall Curly Willcox in "Stagecoach," a 1986 TV movie remake of the John Wayne classic.
A 50 year old Kris Kristofferson plays the "Ringo Kid," originally acted by Duke. Willie Nelson had the lead as Doc Holiday, who is nowhere to be seen in the original.
Johnny Cash returned to Old Tucson after 15 years. Ted Post, who had directed Clint Eastwood in "Rawhide," "Hang 'Em High," and "Magnum Force" helmed this bottom of the barrel TV (despite high ratings) recycling of a certified classic.
This is an amusing clip from the project shot at Old Tucson.

While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life. I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
