Description
"Tombstone, Arizona's first school opened in February 1880 with nine students in a small room with dirt floors. By the end of the first term 40 students were in attendance. The desks consisted of boards spread across packing boxes. The seats were made by placing planks on nail kegs and the teacher's desk was a flour barrel turned upside down," c. 1881
