Description
Similar in theme to William Wyler's "Desperate Hours," but a much better film from the husband and wife team of Andrew and Virginia Stone.
The auteur John Cassavetes (1929-1989) is 4th billed. He wrote and directed his first independent film, the landmark "Shadows," four years later in 1959.
"Shadows" was shot with a hand held 16mm camera with much of the dialogue improvised. Cassavetes shot two versions, the first in 1957, with the only print lost for decades. It was rediscovered in 2004.

Cassavetes bankrolled his films with his earnings as a film actor.
"Shadows" was well received by the international press. The second version was selected in 1993 by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry.
