Description
Most critics would now call "Vertigo" (1958) Hitch's greatest film. Vera Miles was originally cast to play the dual role of Madeleine/Judy. Instead Kim Novak got the part of her life in film.
The former model now raises llamas and horses, never being that enamored of acting even from the start of her career.
Her independence did not sit well with studio heads, especially Harry Cohn at Columbia.
James Stewart finally licks his vertigo but at a shattering price.

"Hollywood is a place where they place you under contract instead of under observation."...Walter Winchell (1897-1992)
{Winchell was so disliked that only his daughter attended his funeral in Phoenix, Arizona. He had been the model for the vicious newspaper columnist played by Burt Lancaster in the film noir, "Sweet Smell of Success."}
