When Warhol 1928-1987) posed with his 16mm camera on a rainy day in January 1968 he couldn't imagine that in five months he would nearly die on the operating table after being shot by the mentally disturbed, radical, feminist writer Valerie Solanis.
She fired three bullets at him and only hit with the last one which penetrated several organs including both lungs. Five doctors worked five hours to save his life. Ironically Warhol would die 19 years later in a hospital after routine gall bladder surgery.
The best shots taken, of Warhol and his merry band of "Lonesome Cowboy" performers, were by ace Tucson photographer Bob Broder.
This image is by an unidentified photographer. According to the film's director, Paul Morrissey, Andy personally shot no film despite being repeatedly photographed either standing alongside the camera or peering through the lens.
After the shooting Warhol was never the same, fully expecting a return visit by Solanis.

I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
