The Italian born Carbone is best remembered for his early screen career performances in Roger Corman's exploitation flics: "Bucket of Blood" (1959), "Last Woman on Earth" (1960), "Creature From the Haunted Sea" (1961) and "The Pit and the Pendulum (1961). He also appeared in a 1968 "The High Chaparral" episode a year before acting, in the Sandy Rosenthal directed, "A Delicate Balance" for the Arizona Civic Theater (renamed the Arizona Theater Company).
The Edward Albee play opened on Broadway in 1966 with the husband and wife acting team of Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy. I had the great pleasure to see Cronyn on stage often in the early/mid 1960's when he was a member of the repertory company, playing all the juicy roles, at the Tyrone Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Carbone has gone back to his first love, the theater, and is now a stage director.
I first became obsessed with photography and motion pictures while growing up in post WW2 Manila in the Philippine Islands in the late 1940's/early 1950's. Film noirs were a particular influence. But my first love remains the theater. I acted in numerous amateur productions from 1958 to 1978. In 1979 I earned a MA in drama from the University of Arizona; earlier getting a BA in English from the University of Minnesota, where I co-founded the first film society on campus and ran it for four years. While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life.
