The French company opened its American branch in Ft. Lee, New Jersey as a sales office in late 1909. By 1911 it had grown into a fully functional production facility with studios and a lab; grinding out dozens of short films
But a March 1914 fire destroyed everything. That and the start of WW1 began Eclair's six year sllde into bankruptcy. 383 films in all were made in the US spanning 1911-1916.
"Renunciation" was released in July 1914, four months after the fire. No known print of it exists. Hopefully one will surface; most likely in a non US based archive.
(A 1912 Vitagraph Western shot in Tucson "The Better Man," was discovered in 2010 in the New Zealand Film Archive. Also found was the long lost 1927 John Ford directed feature "Up Stream," complete with color tints. 75 features and shorts were unearthed, all to be preserved. Only some 15 percent of Ford's silent films survive.)

I first became obsessed with photography and motion pictures while growing up in post WW2 Manila in the Philippine Islands in the late 1940's/early 1950's. Film noirs were a particular influence. But my first love remains the theater. I acted in numerous amateur productions from 1958 to 1978. In 1979 I earned a MA in drama from the University of Arizona; earlier getting a BA in English from the University of Minnesota, where I co-founded the first film society on campus and ran it for four years. While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life.
