Description
Four years later many of the same Monument Valley crew are in Louisiana shooting "The Horse Soldiers."
Duke is touching his female lead Constance Towers.
John Ford is sitting in the chair. Directly behind him is cinematographer William Clothier.
"The Horse Soldiers" was the first of numerous collaborations between the two men ending in "The Train Robbers" (1973).
The film was the beginning of mega salaries for performers. Both Duke and William Holden got paydays of $750,000 plus 20% of the profits. There were no profits.
John Ford lost interest in it when stuntman Fred Kennedy was killed.
"The West - the very words go straight to the place of the heart where Americans feel the spirit of pride in their Western heritage - the triumph of personal courage over any obstacle, whether nature or man."...John Wayne
