Artist's Description

Orson Welles' (1915-1985) first gained international recognition with his 1938 CBS radio production of "The War of the Worlds." It led to a film contract with RKO Radio giving him more creative control than even the most celebrated film directors. He made "Citizen Kane"; after its failure at the box office, he never had that kind of subsidizied freedom again for the remaining 45 years of his life.

George Pal (1908-1980) made a motion picture version of the H.G. Wells novel in 1953.
