Description
Bogie finally won the coveted Academy Award for his performance in "Queen." His Warner Brother's rival James Cagney took 9 years from his debut to get the Oscar, while Edward G. Robinson was never nominated. An honorary award was given to Eddie posthumously.
George Raft had "turned down the roles of Roy 'Mad Dog' Earle in 'High Sierra' (1941), Sam Spade in 'The Maltese Falcon' (1941), and Rick Blaine in 'Casablanca' (1942). All three of these parts were picked up by Humphrey Bogart, and each one was essential in making Bogart a superstar."
In turning down "Casablanca" Raft reportedly said, "Whoever heard of Casablanca? I don't want to star opposite an unknown Swedish broad."
