Description
"Sadie Thompson" was thought to have been lost for years. After Swanson's death in 1983, a copy of the film was discovered by her estate. By that time, the final reel had become damaged. The film was bought by Kino International who hired Dennis Doros to reconstruct the final reel. Doros used the original title sequences, still photos and footage from the 1932 adaptation (which cinematographer Oliver T. Marsh also shot) to restore the footage. A new score by Joseph Turrin was also composed for the film."
"Sadie" was directed by the criminally underrated Raoul Walsh, who ranks among the best film directors of all time.
While John Ford garnered four directing Oscars and William Wyler three, Walsh was never even nominated in a career spanning 50 years.
This late silent film was the last time Walsh acted in movies. He lost an eye while working on the early talkie "In Old Arizona," in which he was set to play the lead role of the Cisco Kid.
Warner Baxter was cast instead and earned an Oscar for his performance.
