Description
The Tombstone Drug Store on the corner of Allen and 5th, Tombstone, Arizona, c.1939-2015. The building had been the former site of the Oriental Saloon.
The Oriental opened in 1880 and was considered the fanciest saloon in town with an impressive bar, well appointed furnishings and live piano/violin music.
"Prior to the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral Billy Clanton and Frank McLowery had patronized the establishment. In December 1881 City Marshal Virgil Earp was ambushed just outside of the Oriental."
All three took part in the historic gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
(A 1980 picture of the Oriental Saloon, can be seen near the end of this essay. Besides a drug store the building has been a reproduction clothing store and a steakhouse according to the monthly "Tombstone Times.")
