"The Quiet Man" featured a "Homeric" fight between Wayne and Victor McLaglen. McLaglen (1886-1959) had been a boxer in his youth, even fighting a six round exhibition fight in 1909 with then heavyweight champ Jack Johnson.

The Republic picture was the studio's supreme triumph, earning Academy Awards for John Ford and second union cinematographer Archie Stout.
Soon after both Duke and Ford left Republic and it ceased production in the late 50's not before flooding TV screens with their film library.
