Description
Jerry Rubin, along with Dr. Timothy Leary, was one of the more charismatic leaders of the counter culture movement in the late 1960's and early 1970's.
Surely I'll never again witness a scene like this in my lifetime.
At Palo Verde Park in Tucson, Arizona, Rubin was urging the enraptured (mostly teenage) listeners to kill their parents and/or rob banks. Despite the numerous roars of approval, there is no record of any in the crowd taking his impassioned advice.
It was all street theater.
Rubin eventually shed his facial hair and tie-dye shirt for a business suit. An early investor in Apple, he was a maverick to the very end. He died from injuries received while jaywalking. on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles.
"Dont trust anybody over 30."...Jerry Rubin, 1938-1994
In 1970, he was interviewed by Phil Donahue.

[NOTE: While approachable here, in 1972 at the Democratic National Covention he was literally surrounded by journalists and gawkers making it impossible for me to photograph him.]
