Description
The ten minute short is the first speaking part for Bogie in films, but he can't be heard since the soundtrack is lost. In the Vitaphone process the sound (on a disc) and the picture were separate. They were synchronized when the film was projected,
The MGM classic musical "Singin' In the Rain" spoofs this when, the film and disc are not in sync when, screened to an audience at a preview. Bogie's second wife at the time, Mary Phillips, played his wife in the short which was shot in Brooklyn, NYC.
Etting's life was largely fictionalized in the 1955 feature "Love Me Or Leave Me" starring Doris Day and James Cagney
