Description
Taylor was the host and sometime actor on the show. "Pieces of a Puzzle" was the first production filmed on the newly built Old Tucson soundstage. The "Death Valley Days" set was bare bones minimal, remindful of the threadbare sets of the 'poverty row' studios in Hollywood of the 1930's and 1940's. Taylor was a contract player at MGM from the mid 1930's to the late 1950's during the golden age of Hollywood.
He continued working because he needed the money. He smoked incessantly during each break. Taylor died of cancer 18 months later. He had smoked three packs a day since his youth.
Barry Sadler acted in three "Death Valley Days" episodes in 1967-1968. While not seeing any of them I imagine his parts are minimal. As an actor he admitted that he was not much of a thespian.
"You know the first thing I found about Hollywood was that it's phonier than camouflage." - Barry Sadler as told to Robert Powers
