Description
Angie Dickinson's co-star Robert Mitchum is conferring with "Young Billy Young's" director Burt Kennedy (1922-2001).
The ex-vaudevillian (member of his parent's act "The Dancing Kennedy's) had been a contract writer with Duke's Batjac Productions for years.
As Duke aged he became increasingly cranky. Kennedy wrote "The Train Robbers" (1973) and also directed Duke in the opus. Six years earlier he had directed Duke and Kirk Douglas in "The War Wagon."
Both Westerns had been shot by William Clothier.
"Wayne was a stickler at work. He was fine if he realized you knew what you were doing. But if you weren't prepared, or fluffed anything, and fortunately I never did, well, then you could be in trouble. He was tough, but then so am I."...Burt Kennedy
Kennedy had experience working with unpleasant film people. He was one of a handful of interviewers who was able to peek behind the veil of venom that John Ford erected when interviewed, especially by American based interviewers.
"Young Billy Young" world premiered, not at the Fox Tucson but in a double bill at the Midway Drive-In (1948-1979) in Tucson.
