Artist's Description

Two Strip Technicolor lasted about a decade from the mid 1920's to the mid 1930's. The process failed to capture the full palette of color. "Phantom" was mostly in black and white with two sequences in Two Strip. The Universal release has survived intact. Even the opera house set is still standing on a sound stage in Hollywood. Sadly Chaney's other triumph "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1923) exists today in pitiful shape. The original negative has been lost. Prints, several generations removed from the original, are all that remain.

But my first love remains the theater. I acted in numerous amateur productions from 1958 to 1978. I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
