Description
Leonard Nimoy started out as a photographer at 13 in the mid 1940's in Boston, developing and printing in his parent's tenement bathroom.
Even at the end of his career he preferred black and white since "it brings back memories of times long past," lending "itself to a reality and life of its own."
While stopping smoking in the mid 1980's, he had routinely lighted up in his darkroom. Working in such a confined space for decades resulted in developing a lung condition COPD, or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease which prevents shooting new images.
Despite announcing his retirement from acting he appeared in 2013's "Star Treck into Darkness."
Nimoy's acting career even predated his photography as he first appeared in community theater at age 8.
The actor/director/producer and photographer has published several photo books and has had numerous exhibitions across the country.
His death in late February 2015 was the result of his chronic lung disease.
