"The Old Weather Wrangler" Michael Goodrich (far left) began his tenure at KVOA TV in 1977, retiring in 1998 then resurfacing three years later at KGUN before leaving the business for good in the early 2000's.
Bud Foster (top left) was a KVOA News anchor from 1980 to 1994 when he jumped ship (probably for a higher salary) to anchor the evening news at KOLD. In 2009 he was inducted into the Arizona Broadcasting Hall of Fame and in 2010 was awarded the coveted Edward R. Murrow Award. Foster has been nominated for an Emmy 4 times.
Patty Weiss (with the missing face) was hired at KVOA in 1975 and toiled as an anchor for 30 years when her contract was not renewed. She was the highest paid (and best) news anchor in the Tucson market at the time. She ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2006.
Thom Boyd (far right) had a short lived broadcast career in comparison and unsuccessfully ran for Justice of the Peace in 1998. As with Weiss, TV fame did not translate into...
I first became obsessed with photography and motion pictures while growing up in post WW2 Manila in the Philippine Islands in the late 1940's/early 1950's. Film noirs were a particular influence. But my first love remains the theater. I acted in numerous amateur productions from 1958 to 1978. In 1979 I earned a MA in drama from the University of Arizona; earlier getting a BA in English from the University of Minnesota, where I co-founded the first film society on campus and ran it for four years. While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life.
