Artist's Description

"Howard Hawks had some difficulty getting Katharine Hepburn to stop overacting during the early stages of production. 'The great trouble is people trying to be funny,' Hawks observed. 'If they don't try to be funny, then they are funny. I couldn't do any good with her, so I went over to an actor who was a comic for the Ziegfeld Follies and everything, Walter Catlett, and said, 'Walter, have you been watching Miss Hepburn?' While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life. I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
