Description
The Fox Tucson was built in 1930 to accommodate vaudeville acts, with dressing rooms and an orchestra pit for the pipe organ. Unfortunately "vaud" was nearly dead by then, killed off by the talkies.
But, by the look of this crowd, live performers were popular; at least with the kids. Karston the magician seems to have been lost to history; as there is no reference to him on Google. If anyone knows about him, let me know.
Karston put on a matinee magic show for the kids about the time Bogart played Duke Mantee in "The Petrified Forest." The Fox mixed live stage shows with motion pictures.
Karston must have been a local act as there is no reference to him anywhere on the internet except for this photo in my Ted DeGrazia homage gallery on Fine Art America, and on pixels, Flickr and Imagekind..
