Description
Gary Cooper won the first of his two Oscars for his portrayal of Alvin C. York in the Warner Brothers film "Sergeant York" released in 1941. His decades long friend Walter Brennan was cast as the preacher. Both were struggling actors in the 1920's silent film era. Brennan had been a soldier in WW1 while Cooper had been two young for that conflict.
Barry Sadler died in the Alvin C. York Medical Center in November 1989 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee at 49 years of age.
