Artist's Description

A devastating fire extensively damaged the Radulovich block on east Congress on September 17, 1898. Several days later the fire is still smoldering.

The Radulovich grocery was caped with an onion shaped dome erected in 1897. It was still in place in the immediate post WW2 years, but was gone by 1955.

In the distance can be seen the wedge on Congress and Maiden Lane. It was removed in 1903 as Congress was expanded and the red light district was relocated.
