Description
The Olympic hotel was a short distance from the permanently moored H.M.S. Queen Mary, location for the period ballroom in Robert Mitchum's "Farewell My Lovely" (1975).
A night shot (with blazing pastel lights) of the Pago Pago bar/restaurant can be briefly glimpsed through the window of a car driven by Sly Stallone in "Lovely." By 1982 the eatery had closed.
"The Unsuspected" is an extremely stylish film noir shot, in the chiaroscuro style, by Woody Bredell (1884-1976) who also was the cinematographer on "The Killers." The world of radio depicted would be passe in less than ten years.
In "Unsuspected" it is the only source of lighting in the dingy hotel room of killer Jack Lambert (1920-2002), (also in "The Killers" as 'Dum-Dum' Clarke); as he is lying in bed smoking.
Turner Classic Movies periodically runs a tribute to Claude Rains (1889-1967) narrated by John Gielgud (1904-2000). Both were among the best but were limited, by their physical appearance, from being conventional leading men.

"You can take all the sincerity in Hollywood, place it in the navel of a firefly and still have enough room for three caraway seeds and a producer's heart."...Fred Allen (1894-1956)
