Description
Allan Ladd (1913-1964) became a star after years of playing bits in numerous films. He wore the crown of stardom badly and drank to excess.
Laird Cregar (1913-1944) had his own set of demons. Like Raymond Burr, he was a closet gay vastly overweight. While he shined in comedy he wanted to be cast as a romantic lead. He shed 100 pounds and died prematurely. Orson Welles was also on a crash diet when he expired.
Ladd's hotel room in "Gun" was quite shabby. Killing for a living must not have paid much.
