Artist's Description

Much of Old Tucson was destroyed in 1995 by an arsonist's fire. The "High Chaparral" ranch house survived as it is located on the south end of the lot. The flying cinders fueled by high winds did not reach the building, which remains a tourist attraction.

Every year a "HC" reunion is held with fans flying in as far as Australia. Only Don Collier and Henry Darrow of the main cast regularly attend. Mark Slade has never come to a reunion. Mitchell and Erickson have long since passed away.

And Linda Cristal lives in Argentina.

Barry Sadler appeared in one episode, For What We Are About to Receive, on The High Chaparral. He played a character called Robbie McLeisch. In his few lines he made no attempt at a Scottish accent.

While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life. I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
