Description
When Ida Lupino (1914-1995) was in her prime, under contract at Warner Brothers in the 1940's, she never got the plum roles. Those went to, the queen of the lot, Bette Davis.
As great as Davis was as an actress, she never directed. Her waspish demeanor would never have worked with temperamental fellow artists. But
Lupino was a director, for decades the only woman director working in Hollywood.
