Description
The first magician/artist to explore the mysteries of time and space in motion pictures was Georges Melies (1861-1938). "Mishap" dates from 1901.
Melies himself plays the magician in his 1896 "The Vanishing Lady."

Should you be interested, YouTube has many of his early films including the celebrated 1902 "A Trip To the Moon." "Moon" was used in the Edward R. Murrow narrated prologue to Mike Todd's 1956 Academy Award winning film, "Around the World in 80 Days."
In 2011 the Martin Scorcese produced and directed "Hugo." was released. The 170 million dollar film explores Melies' later life as a shop keeper in a Paris train station.
