Description
Besides the State showing the world premiere of "Arizona," the film was screened simultaneously, to sold out audiences, at four other local theaters, the Fox, the Lyric, the Rialto and the Temple of Music.
Stars Jean Arthur and William Holden went from theater to theater to introduce the epic set in 1860. They stayed and watched the film at the State.
Both Arthur and the State retired from films in 1953, she with the release of "Shane" and the State with its closing in September with the showing of George Pal's "When World's Collide." The State had been the former Tucson Opera House. The 1,000 seat theater opened in 1897 at the very dawn of motion pictures.
