Artist's Description

Both the downtown and the Fox theater boomed during the WW2 years. A circa 1942 postcard featured both.

Duke's career blossomed then as many of the Hollywood leading men volunteered for military service.

As the sole support for four young children Duke was exempt from the draft.

Critics called him a draft dodger, lead by Duke's mentor future admiral John Ford.

I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
