Artist's Description

Barry Sadler was gunned down in Guatemala City in 1988. The bullet pierced the frontal lobe of his brain, rendering him a vegetable. His body had withered to 67 pounds when he died in the Alvin C. York Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee some 14 months after being shot.

Here he is in better days with his period "Afrika Corps" VW amphibian, beloved machine guns and typewriter for penning his first Casca the mercenary novel.

I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
