Description
Rio Grande Oil sponsored a crime drama radio show "Calling All Cars" from 1933-1939. One of their most popular episodes dated from February 1934, "The Mae West Jewelry Robbery." It was so popular it was aired again.
The show was based on an actual robbery of her $3,000 in bills and jewelry. A master at media manipulation Mae garnered much free publicity with the incident especially at the high profile trial of the masked bandit. An actress impersonated Ms. West on the show.
Any one know the make of this car? Cracked was a high octane gas which was used by several law enforcement agencies for added acceleration and fuel efficiency.
"Rio Grande" is a 1950 released Republic Western, which studio head Herbert Yates demanded that Duke and Ford make to green light the director's long cherished dream of filming "The Quiet Man."
Corners were cut on the black and white "Rio Grande" as it was expected to turn a profit to subsidize "Man," as it was thought to be a potential money loser. Duke even received a a smaller salary.
Movie goers would have to wait until "The Quiet Man" two years later to see O'Hara's green eyes and fiery red hair.
