Description
Duke and former head of Old Tucson Studios, Robert Shelton, are photographed in some sort of rifle presentation ceremony, probably held in 1965 when Duke was in town to shoot "Eldorado."
On the 100th anniversary of Wayne's birth in May 2007, Shelton narrated a documentary "Old Tucson Remembers John Wayne" at Old Tucson.
Shelton was a friend of Wayne, who was part owner of Old Tucson's sound stage.
The stage, which had a permanent display honoring Duke, was not rebuilt following a disastrous 1995 fire, which was arson but the evidence was not sufficient to hold an apprehended and questioned suspect.
The blaze also consumed the only print of a film tracing the history of Old Tucson, which was shown daily in a special screening room on the lot.
I watched the short presentation several times.
Bob also appeared from time to time as an actor. His crowning role was playing poker with Dame Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011) in the TV western "Poker Alice" (1987), shot at Old Tucson.
He is billed last as Bob Shelton.
{Note} Experts have pointed out that Duke favored a Winchester Model 1892 in his pictures; as displayed here.
