Description
Besides 1956's "Storm Fear," character actor Dan Duryea appeared in numerous film noirs including "Black Angel," "Criss Cross," "Lady on a Train," "Scarlet Street," "Too Late For Tears," and "The Woman In The Window."
Cornel Wilde (1915-1989) starred in, directed and produced "Storm Fear." He acted in one of the few classic period film noirs photographed in color, "Leave Her To Heaven," made 11 years earlier.
"Storm Fear" was written by Horton Foote (1916-2009), distinguished playwright/screenwriter. The actor turned writer started out penning scripts during the golden age of TV drama in the 1950's.
Foote won Academy Awards for "Two Kill a Mocking Bird" (1962) and "Tender Mercies" (1983). Foote had recommended Robert Duvall to play Boo Radley in "Mockingbird;" Duvall's first film. The actor won an Oscar for his portrayal of the recovering alcoholic country music singer Mac Sledge in "Mercies." Duvall does his own singing in the movie.

Foote was noted for his skill in adopting William Faulkner works. An obscure 1972 film, "Tomorrow," is a Foote adaptation of a Faulkner short story. It stars Robert Duvall who, at one time, claimed it as his best film performance.

Foote called Duvall "our number one actor." With that I heartily agree.
