Description
Farm Security Administration photographer Walker Evans (1903-1975) loved movies. He deliberately sought out billboards advertising 1930's era films.
Carole Lombard in Universal's "Love Before Breakfast" and Ann Shirley in RKO's "Chatterbox" caught his eye in March 1936 in Atlanta, Georgia.
The founder of Universal in 1915 and presenter of "Breakfast," Carl Laemmele, was forced out of his company later in the year because of cost overruns on the musical "Showboat."
The two houses look as if they never saw a coat of paint.
In 1927 German filmmaker and artist Hans Richter (1888-1976) directed his surrealistic short "One More Ghost Before Breakfast."
