Both it and "Rio Bravo" were penned by veteran screenwriter Jules Furthman (1888-1966). "Rio Bravo" was his last film. He started in silent motion pictures in 1915 and went on to write such classics as "Morocco," "Shanghai Express," "Mutiny On the Bounty." "Only Angel's Have Wings," and the two film noirs, "The Big Sleep," and "Nightmare Alley." He collaborated often with Josef von Sternberg (1894-1969) and Howard Hawks.
