Artist's Description

Photography homage, Margaret Bourke-White, ghost town, Madrid, New Mexico.

Margaret Bourke-White (1904-1971) was one of the four photographers on staff when Henry Luce launched Life magazine in 1937. A photo of hers graced the first issue.

In the 1930's she traveled with her husband Erskine Caldwell in the rural South documenting the region. Their text/photo collaboration was quite inferior to that of James Agee and Walker Evans in their classic book, "Let Us Now Praise Famous Men." Madrid, New Mexico is a ghost town.

I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
