Description
Johnny Cash is filming a promotional video in January 1971 for his then upcoming Western, "A Gunfight" co-starring Kirk Douglas.The uninspired "oater" was shot in Spain during the summer of 1970.
One caustic critic observed that "Cash was looking dour, as if someone had just named him Sue."
"A Boy Named Sue" was a best seller for him. The inmates at his 1969 San Quentin Prison concert went wild with howls of approval as caught on film by a Granada television crew from Great Britain.
He sang the song for the first time at the concert, encouraged by June, without fully knowing the lyrics by memory.
Cash eventually tired of the novelty song and quit singing it in concert.
{NOTE: A 1995 fire destroyed all the buildings in this shot. None were rebuilt.}
