Description
Illustrator and artist James Montgomery Flagg's (1877-1960) Uncle Sam, "I Want You," poster was drawn in 1917 to encourage American boys to enlist and defeat the "Beastly Hun." It proved so popular that four million were printed in WW1; and was used again in WW2. It is doubtful that the services, ever in need of cannon fodder, would have welcomed this biker gang as recruits.
Flagg, not wanting to be bothered with a model, used himself as Uncle Sam; adding age and the goatee.
"As a man is, so he sees. As the eye is formed, such are its powers."...William Blake (1757-1827)
"Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it."...Confucius (551-479BC)
