Description
Excess is the name of the game here, both in violence and in the film's length. Cuba refugee Montana destroys his life wanting to gain respect and the world.
A remake of the classic 1932 gangster film starring Paul Muni. The Brian DePalma opus remake is dedicated to the director Howard Hawks and screenwriter Ben Hecht who fashioned the original.
Hawks can be seen earlier in this essay with a 1970 image shooting "Rio Lobo" with John Wayne. Hawks also directed "Sgt. York" in 1941. Barry Sadler died in the Alvin C. York Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN.
In his New York Times obituary Sadler is described as a "balladeer."
